Born in 1924 in Moscow. In 1939, engaged in the art Studio of the Central House of pioneers, professors V. A. Voronin and A. M. Mikhailov. Ivanov is one of the most consistent adherents of the "severe style" of the 1960s, until today implementing its principles. Gold medal of arts of the USSR in 1985 for a series of paintings and graphic works devoted to the Ryazan land and its people. In 2004 in Ryazan was opened Museum of V. I. Ivanov.
