Soviet painter and graphic artist, people's artist of USSR (1974), full member AH the USSR (1953: 1974 Vice-President). Member of the CPSU since 1945.

Studied in Moscow in Vhuteine - Institute of fine arts (1929-34) D. S. Moore and S. V. Gerasimov. The participant of expeditions on the icebreaker "Sibiryakov" (1932) and Chelyuskin (1933-34).

He taught at the Moscow art Institute. V. I. Surikov (1953-56, Professor since 1954).

The author of genre works (mostly on children), works on historical-revolutionary and battle themes, portraits, illustrations, satirical compositions, graphic and sculptural cartoons.

Works: "Arrived on holidays" (1948, along with a picture of "Generalissimo of the Soviet Union I. V. Stalin" - the USSR State prize, 1949), "For peace!" (1950, USSR State prize, 1951), "Secrets of abstract art" (triptych, 1960), all in Tretyakov gallery; "the Vietnamese mother" (tempera, 1968, the Ministry of culture of the USSR, Moscow). Awarded 2 orders and medals.

People's artist of the USSR. Member of the Academy of arts of the USSR. Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Arts. Twice winner of the Stalin Prize for his film "Generalissimo of the Soviet Union I. V. Stalin" and "For peace!"

Painter, genre painter and satirist, Creator of reference works of socialist realism.

Born into a family of icon painter. Worked at the railway club station Grishino, where he was sent to study at the technical school of arts in Moscow. Soon he entered the Higher art and technical studios (VKHUTEMAS), where he worked in 1929-1934, particularly in such prominent masters as D. S. Moore, and S. V. Gerasimov.

Already in his student years became famous as a virtuoso of the graphic cartoon that helped him become – as an artist-reporter – participant of polar expeditions on the icebreaker "Sibiryakov" (1932) and Chelyuskin (1933-1934 gg.). Brought sketches were a resounding success, especially on the background of the triumphant completion of the famous "Chelyuskin epic". But the real Union known artist brought the painting "the deuce Again!" (1952), which for decades were printed in school textbooks for literature.

Works of the artist are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, more than 30 Art Museums of the former USSR.
