Born in France in 1788, died in St. Petersburg on 15 April 1840

French painter, engraver and lithographer. Pupil Of A. J. Gros. In 1812, while Napoleon's army, was wounded, taken prisoner and remained in Russia. Wrote battle scenes and portraits. In 1827 he received the title of academician of the Imperial Academy of arts. In 1815 elected to appointed, for the painting "Three Russian cavalry pursuing a French carabiner and the huntsman"; in 1827 received of academician for the painting, which portrayed a cavalry skirmish during which he was captured. In 1829 and 1830 was in Turkey when the army gr. Dibich-Zabalkansky.
