Matveyevich Prokofiev

Russia • 1859−1925

Lived and worked in St. Petersburg. Studied at Drawing school of OPKh in St. Petersburg, continued his artistic education at the Academy of arts in the workshop of A. Kuindzhi. A lot of work in the Russian North. From 1897 to 1918 he exhibited his works at the Spring exhibitions in the halls of the Academy of arts in St. Petersburg from 1904 to 1924 – at the exhibitions of St. Petersburg society of artists, the Society named AIKuindzhi, Association of artists and others. Participated in the "Second exhibition of paintings of the society's behalf Arkhip Kuindzhi" was opened on may 6, 1918 in Petrograd in the Academy of arts, and also "the XX exhibition of the Petrograd society for the encouragement of artists" in 1918 the artist's Works were repeatedly published in pre-revolutionary periodicals and on postcards.

In the early 1920s, invited Alatyrsky district education Department as inspector. At an art exhibition, which opened in may 1922 in the former Alatyr uyezd religious school, the artist will present several works, including "Winter in Porecka" and "working water".
