Graduated from School of painting, sculpture and architecture in 1883, worked in the Moscow magazines, doing artwork for lithographs, painted the decorations; author of memoirs about Chekhov (LN, t. 68), where in memory is the text of a lost note, Chekhov, 1883; one letter to Chekhov (1884) is in GBL — 509
