Born in the village of Osinovka in Saratov region in a peasant family in 1931, the family moved to Samara. The first lessons of drawing and painting he got in the Studio the old Samara artists, G. P., Podbel'skiy and P. A. Krasnov. From 1939 to 1944 he studied at the Moscow secondary art school and in 1950 graduated from the Moscow art Institute. V. I. Surikov, where he worked in the Studio of the famous Soviet artist G. G. Ryazhsky.
To Samara (then Kuibyshev) Purygin back in 1951. Together with GV Filatov, Ie Komissarov, AA Kulakowski, Y. I. Filippov and other young artists, he enthusiastically explored the characteristic motifs of the Volga, Volga, Lada, but not the least place in their activities during this period took the theme of transformation of nature, building a new life - new town, invading its suburbs in the space of "natural" nature.
In 60-ies Purygin interested in French post-Impressionists, the pointillism of Seurat and Signac, was doing it to "raise color," looking for a new pictorial expression (landscapes of Gurzuf and Sudak).
Creativity Purygina, found your own unique path, has become a significant phenomenon at the regional, zonal, Republican exhibitions. In 1971-1972 in Kuibyshev and Moscow held solo exhibitions of the artist. But later in the fate Purygina planned, it would seem that fundamental changes: in 1973, he attempts to leave his native Samara "soil", moved to Moscow (Zagorsk), and then in Moscow. Even then, however, his life is split between Moscow and Kuibysheva, with whom the artist was indissolubly bound. And in 1979, he finally returned to the banks of the Volga.
In his creativity there is a significant, qualitative changes - in the foreground theme of rebellion "wild", "natural" nature vs. civilization. The artist brings to his paintings a series of colorful, grotesque characters of the pagan Pantheon, personifying natural forces - a God Yarila, goblins, mermaids ... enhanced by the Parallel topic of the madness of civilization, the coming of Armageddon. Angry Volga comes to town, the friends of the Samara realities on the viewer's eyes plunge to the bottom. Increasingly come to the fore reflections on the global fate of the world, overwhelmed by Evil.
In 1991, the Samara art Museum and two years later, in Moscow, in the House of artists held a solo exhibition Purygina, has received the big public resonance.
It would seem that there are new creative perspective... But the internal barometer of the Wizard continued to show "storm". The last decade of his life characterizes the limit situation of the drama, all the world's faults continue to pass through his soul, the end result is a disaster. The artist died 29 October 2002.
The Master's heritage, representing one of the brightest cultural values of Samara, not losing its significance and the background of all Russian art of the twentieth century, waiting for his further study.
