Born in the village of Novlyanka Ivanovo-Voznesensk province (now Vladimir oblast). In 1948 he graduated from the Palekh art school. In 1951 he graduated from the pedagogical Department of the Moscow art-industrial school im. M. I. Kalinin. He taught artistic disciplines in art-industrial College (the College) toys in the city of Zagorsk (Sergiev Posad).
