Biography and information

Painter. Member of the Union of artists of the USSR. Honored art worker of the Latvian SSR, Professor.

(1905.3. April in Jelgava district – 1977.20.November in Riga)

Born in a working class family. In 1932, graduated from Latvian Academy of arts, Studio of Landscape painting of V. Purvitis with diploma work "the Town in Latgale".

Worked as a teacher at Resensko Institute of teachers (1941 – 44).

Lecturer at Latvian Academy of arts in the Department of painting (1945 – 50).

Head of chair of drawing, Professor (1950 – 1966).

Participated in creating a group of artists of city of Rezekne (1934 – 44).

The member of artists ' Union since 1945

Got 2. place in the competition for the Rome scholarship (1935)

Mainly wrote on the easel, but there is work on a monumental painting, watercolors, book design and poster.

My favourite genre is landscapes of small towns, and genre, portrait, seascape, especially in the second half of the 1930-ies. After the second world war works accordingly to the principles of socialist realism, creating several paintings a theme of the Soviet workers. Together with his colleague P. Ozolins in 1952 in Moscow, at ENEA in the Latvian pavilion has created decorative panels.

A. Egle talented colorist, his painting features a thin, grayish silver color.
