Born in the family of a road worker. In 1902 he graduated from a parish school and worked as a "boy" in a trading company. The heating engineer V.M. Chaplin drew attention to M.'s artistic abilities and, becoming his patron and friend, helped graduate in Moscow in 1917. school of painting, sculpture and architecture.

As M. said, "vision must be controlled in the same way as hearing, music." M.'s innovative projects, mostly left on paper, nevertheless put him among the pioneers of modern architecture of the XX century.
