Aristocratic portrait in Russia XVIII - early XX century

At the end of February 2019, the Historical Museum will present an exhibition “Aristocratic portrait in Russia of the XVIII - beginning of the XX century”. The exposition will consist of more than 120 portraits of representatives of ancient Russian clans and new nobility, made by the best domestic and foreign painters, as well as by modest estate artists.

Among the authors are prominent Russian artists: F. S. Rokotov, D. G. Levitsky, V. L. Borovikovsky, V. A. Tropinin; famous French portrait painters of the mid-nineteenth century, C. Muller, FK Winterhalter; virtuosos of the salon high-profile portrait - K. E. Makovsky, I. K. Makarov, V. A. Serov. For the first time, a series of portraits of the family of the princes Shakhovsky-Golynsky by the artist F. A. Tulov is displayed. The pearl of the exhibition is the only portrait in the collections of Russian museums of Count S. A. Zubov by the famous Parisian portrait painter. Giovanni Boldini.
The exposition is accompanied by sculptural portraits, photographs of estate interiors, video demonstrations of the stages of research and restoration of rare works.

The historical museum will demonstrate the richness of its collection and allow visitors to take a tour of the past, see the “history in faces” - generic portrait galleries of representatives of the nobility, including Princes Kurakin, Golitsyn, Baryatinsky, Shakhovsky, Naryshkin and many others.
