Georg Baselitz. Works on paper

Exhibition January 21 − April 29, 2018
On the occasion of the 80th birthday of Georg Baselitz Kunstmuseum in Basel, Switzerland brought together more than 150 of the best drawings and watercolors of one of the most prominent figures of German post-war art. Exhibition "Georg Baselitz. Works on paper" supplements a retrospective of the master organized by the Fondation Beyeler.

Baselitz's career began in the mid 1960-ies with paintings that shocked the critics and audiences, and hallucinatory "Pandemic manifests". In 1969, he decided to turn his canvases upside down, deprived of their usual content. The evolution of the artist's art is especially evident in his drawings. They show how he develops his ideas in the unbridled creative flow. His latest work is evidence of reflection on mortality, and a review of its own extensive and multi-faceted creativity.

The first exhibition of drawings by Georg Baselitz in Kunstmuseum Basel took place in 1970. Then 25 sheets moved to the collection gallery. This collection was expanded in the 1980-ies, when the artist generously donated several works to the Museum collection.
