The exhibition includes works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Robert Rauschenberg, Joseph Beuys, Claes Oldenburg, Jonathan Borofsky, James Rosenquist, Gerhard Richter, CY Twombly, Tom Wesselmann, Anselm Kiefer, Ilya Kabakov, Erik Bulatov, Dmitri Prigov, Mikhail Roginsky, Igor Makarevich, Viktor Pivovarov, Nikolay Ovchinnikov, Edward Steinberg, Inspection "Medical Hermeneutics" (Sergey Anufriev, Yuri Leiderman, Pavel Pepperstein), Igor Kanikowska, Ivan Chuikov and others.

Legendary collectors Peter and Irene Ludwig in 1994 gave the Russian Museum collection of works of outstanding artists of the second half of the twentieth century. This unique gift became the basis of the permanent exhibition "Museum Ludwig in the Russian Museum" with special status "Museum in Museum". This exhibition today is the only major collection of modern art works from the postwar period until the early twenty-first century. Besides the works of world famous masters, in the collection of the Ludwig Museum also includes works of Russian modern art. Today the collection includes works by 150 artists, and the collection is regularly updated.

A collection of The Russian Museum reflects the artistic directions and strategies, introducing the viewer to the iconic works of pop art and hyperrealism, German neo-expressionism and conceptual art.
