The exhibition introduces works that go beyond the usual iconographic repertoire of Russian church art. It presents both icons of rare subjects and works characterized by unexpected variants of traditional images or unique and unusual details of their compositions. The main part of the exhibits are icons of the late XVII - early XX century from the private collection of I.A. Sysolyatin. They are supplemented by rare works from the collection of the Andrei Rublev Museum.
The range of represented subjects is wide and diverse. These include rare variants of images of the Holy Trinity, Christ, the Mother of God and events of the Gospel story, hymnographic and didactic subjects, illustrations of Gospel parables, liturgical hymns and moral writings, as well as unusual images of widely revered and little-known saints.
The curators of the exhibition are N.I. Komashko, Chief Scientific Officer of the Research Department, and M.I. Yakovleva, Scientific Secretary of the CMiAR.
