Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin. Emile Burle Collection

Exhibition October 2, 2020 − June 28, 2021
In autumn 2020, the Leopold Museum will present for the first timeEmile Burle collectionin Vienna.

Zurich industrialist Emil Bürle (1890–1956) put together a very outstanding collection of works of art. The focus of his attention is French impressionism with paintings by Manet, Degas, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh and Cezanne.

The collection also includes the work of artists of the Paris avant-garde around 1900, including Braque and Picasso, which allows us to perceive these post-impressionist paintings as the beginning of classical modernism.

After Burle's death, his family created a foundation in 1960, thanks to which about a third of the collection was available to the public in Zurich.
