Choosing Costaki

Exhibition July 9 − November 8, 2020
The Museum of AZ (AZ) invites you to visit a large-scale exhibition dedicated to the legendary collector George Kostaki (1913 -1990) -“Costaki's Choice”.

The exhibition presents works from an extensive collection, from samples of ancient Russian art from the Rublev Museum to the works of classic Russian avant-garde and late Soviet nonconformist artists. The collection of paintings and graphics is complemented by the work of media artist Plato Infante.

The AZ Museum project is dedicated to a collector who has gathered and discovered the work of the masters of the first Russian avant-garde, a connoisseur and patron of artists of the Soviet underground, who was one of the first to support Anatoly Zverev. He was forced to leave the Soviet Union in 1977, but left most of his grandiose collection at home, donated to the Tretyakov Gallery, Andrei Rublev Museum, Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve. “My collection made me,” said George Kostaki. And he, in turn, “made” the fate of the heroes of his collection, inscribed their names in the history of art.
