Biography and information

Alexander Vladimirovich Makovsky (April 5, 1869, Moscow — October 26, 1924, Leningrad) — Russian painter of the famous dynasty Makovsky, an itinerant. His family belonged to a noble family and lived in Moscow province: there Makovsky mastered the basics of their future profession. He later enrolled in one of the most prestigious at that time the educational institutions of the Moscow school of sculpture and architecture. Teachers of Alexander was Polenov,Pryanishnikov and the father, Vladimir Makovsky.

As a gifted artist Makovsky showed itself quite early in the years of training he received the silver medal for achievements in fine art and graduate work. The school was the first but not the last place where Alexander received the necessary knowledge and perfected his talent. He continued his studies in Paris, the French realist Cormonand after returning to Russia entered the Academy, where he studied in the workshop Ilya Repin. In the future, the artist took up teaching and opened a private Studio. He later became an academician, was Professor of the Academy and head of the school at the same school.

Paintings Makovsky: understated beauty

Quite a long stay in Paris while training left no trace in the artist — except in terms of elegance of craftsmanship. Makovsky returned home and devoted his painting close to him on the mood and spirit subjects: rural landscapes, urban views, domestic scenes. He did not seek to portray in his paintings something more than a daily routine in all its manifestations. Characteristic of the Itinerants ideas of populism is not so strongly reflected in the work of Alexander, as in the works of other participants of the partnership or his father Vladimir.

In search of inspiration, the artist traveled extensively around the country. A large series of beautiful landscapes was written during a trip in the Perm region in the years 1910-1917. The wizard is dedicated to the most different corners of Russia: from the banks of the Kama and Vishera up to the White sea. Makovsky repeatedly depicted in his paintings graceful Russian churches and majestic monasteries, including the famous complex in the Solovetsky Islands. Many works were exhibited at the Peredvizhniki organized exhibitions of the Association.
