Coaches of national football teams should visit museums more often. First, art ennobles. Second, painting is a bottomless source of tactical schemes and training methods. Armed with motivational and educational tools that art offers, even the eternal outsiders are bound to succeed.

The Museo del Prado in Madrid presented The Triumph of Death by Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1562-1563) after a thorough restoration. The painting depicts a theme frequently used by medieval authors of the North: the play of the Death. After a one-year set-up, the artwork has taken its place of honour next to another Bruegel treasure, The Wine of Saint Martin’s Day , acquired by the museum…

They called Bruegel  “rustic”, while Bosch  could rightly be named “elegant” or “exquisite”, because everything he created was extremely mature and flawless. However, he could have been named “horrible” just as well, as his fantasy gave rise to really strange things.

From time to time, one cannot help but feel perplexed at the sight of four laconic letters ‘Anon’ that should denote the authorship of a certain painting of old. A little more satisfying is the inscription ‘Master of’ — followed by some German or Flemish town or an altar of some saint. Opening a list of artists from the 13th–15th centuries, one would find the letter ‘M’ in abundance — not…

How did the mysterious land of the New World appeared before the first Europeans? What were their first depictions of Native Americans? Were they the truthful chronicles or a colonist propaganda? We discuss these and other questions while looking through ten earliest pictures of the Americas.
